Why we choose CP over PC for Optical Frames
CP (Cellulose Propionate) is a lightweight and skin friendly material that has been widely used in eyewear for decades, proven to be safe for long term contact with the human body. Compared to many plastics, CP offers excellent flexibility and durability, allowing frames to bend without breaking easily, which improves comfort and longevity in daily use. It is naturally hypoallergenic, making it suitable for people with sensitive skin. CP also provides outstanding cost performance value, offering premium touch and comfort at a reasonable material cost, ideal for both quality, focused and value oriented collections. Although these frames are manufactured in China, the raw CP material is sourced from EASTMAN (USA), a globally trusted supplier known for consistent quality and safety standards. This combination of proven material performance, comfort, durability and reliable sourcing makes CP an excellent choice for everyday eyewear.
CP (Cellulose Propionate) offers an excellent balance of lightweight, flexibility, comfort and long term skin safety, which has been proven through decades of use in eyewear applications. While PC (Polycarbonate) also has many advantages, especially high impact resistance. Injection molded PC frames typically require cold lens insertion. This process places more stress on the frame structure and in real life use. PC frames tend to crack or whiten at stress points more easily than CP when repeatedly flexed. As a result, PC frames are more commonly used in low cost sunglasses or disposable fashion products, where long term flexibility and durability are not the primary focus.
CP maintains better elasticity and structural stability for everyday optical frames, making it a more suitable material for prescription eyewear that requires frequent lens changes and long term daily use. Combined with hypoallergenic properties, long term body safety, durability and strong cost performance value. CP remains our preferred material for optical frames. The CP raw material used in our products is supplied by EASTMAN (USA), ensuring consistent quality and safety.
